ESNL Annual Event 2022: opportunities for acceleration
On Wednesday, November 16, 2022, the Energy Storage NL Annual Event took place in Den Bosch. For this occasion, ESNL participant Enexis had made their innovation center, LAB.073 available. With about 80 ESNL members, there was great interest from participants to network with each other, get inspired and join in the discussion about the industry's plans and ambitions during this event.
Inspirational speakers
The event began with a keynote by Maarten de Jong, Manager of Grid & Capacity Management at Enexis. In his presentation, he gave an update on current grid congestion issues and ways grid operators are dealing with them. This revealed a clear role for storage to facilitate congestion services in the electricity grid now and in the future.
Ben Voorhorst, Special Coordinator of Grid Congestion, was present to update participants on his work for the Cabinet in solving problems on the electricity grid. In doing so, he explained what developments have led to the current situation and what challenges society faces for a successful energy transition. He also presented his approach to grid congestion in North Brabant and Limburg in the short, medium and long term. This also showed that various forms of flexibility and storage are essential for a sustainable and reliable energy system. With that, it was an enlightening and also inspiring story for the broad energy storage sector.
Ambitions for 2023
Finally, the Annual Event focused on the association and our participants. Therefore, five new participants were given the opportunity to present themselves during a Techtalk. There was also a look back and forward to the activities of Energy Storage NL. Attention for the storage sector is growing rapidly, and so is ESNL. Participants were therefore updated on plans to further grow and broaden, and what ideas lie ahead to even better meet the demands and expectations of our members in 2023.
