National RES Program develops Electricity Storage Fact Sheet
The National RES Program asked CE Delft to produce a fact sheet on the role of electricity storage. What technologies are there? What role do they play in the energy system? What opportunities do and don't they offer? The fact sheet provides objective answers to these questions.
The purpose of the fact sheet is to inform cooperating parties in RES regions about the (im)possibilities of electricity storage. It is an aid in discussions about the contribution of different forms of electricity storage in the region, and in making choices in this regard.
The fact sheet covers the following techniques:
- Batteries at different scales:
- Home Battery
- Large battery at generator/consumer
- Grid battery with its own grid connection
- Innovative battery technologies
- Temporary conversion (hydrogen)
- Compressed air energy storage
Also discussed are a number of other techniques that are less technically advanced, but are often named as interesting storage techniques:
- Liquid air energy storage
- Underground pumped storage power plant (O-PAC) and trap lakes
- Flywheels
The fact sheet has been coordinated with Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, IPO, VNG, Union of Water Boards, NVDE, Energy Storage NL and Netbeheer Nederland.
