New fact sheet: the role of batteries in the energy system
The Regional Energy Transition Team, the samenwerking of NVDE, Energy Storage NL, Holland Solar, NedZero and Energy Netherlands, Has a new fact sheet developed on the role of batteries in the energy system.
The fact sheet shows why batteries are an indispensable link in the energy transition and how they can help solve societal challenges such as grid congestion, sustainability goals, and the affordability and reliability of onergy.
The Netherlands faces major challenges: the energy system must be made more sustainable, demand and the supply of electricity need to be better matched, and the power grid is hitting many places overloaded. Batteries can play an important role in this, both nationally and regional and local levels.
The fact sheet offers policymakers, provinces and municipalities insight into:
- The societal challenges surrounding energy transition;
- The solutions that batteries can provide;
- The different application areas of batteries;
- The current state of affairs in the Netherlands;
- And the ways governments can facilitate battery incorporation.
"Batteries - alongside heat and molecule storage - are a crucial part of the energy transition. It is important that municipalities and provinces get the full picture and understand why space is needed for this. With the proper cooperation between government, grid operators and market can beand batteries provide flexibility, stability and growth," said Susanna Stam, project manager at Energy Storage NL.
The fact sheet is intended for policymakers and politicians at regional and provincial level, and for everyone involved in the implementation of the energy transition.
