At least not in a way that can meet the unique challenges involved in generating and operating green power. Battery storage / Energy storage installation

Battery storage (BESS) / Energy storage installation (EOS) is a staple of the renewable energy solution. The innovative, customized Battery Plus Policy Provides complete coverage against damage to and from your battery / energy storage installation.

Batteries and battery technology come in many shapes and sizes. A now widely used battery technology is Lithium-ION where a distinction can be made between the Lithium NMC (Nickel-Manganese Cobalt) or the Lithium LFP (Ferro-Phosphate) variant. The developments of other battery variants such as a Flow battery, Hydrogen battery or Thermal Energy Storage are also going fast. With different techniques and types of batteries also come different capacities. A number of smaller battery stores with a capacity of 3MWh are already in use in the Netherlands, but battery projects are now being developed in the Netherlands with a capacity of 30MWh, powerful enough to power 350 homes.

The development, construction and operation of a battery storage often involves substantial investments and (financial) risks. As described above, there are not only different suppliers of BESS /EOS installations (with different guarantees, monitoring systems and prevention measures) but also different earning models. This makes that insuring the installation itself, as well as insuring operating loss due to a damage, is truly customized. Every project is different! Damage or failure of your asset as a result of a damage event can therefore have substantial financial consequences, and security in the form of insurance is no unnecessary luxury in this regard. Many financiers will often demand this as well! That is why PMP Duurzaam Verzekeren has developed three types of insurance for this specific risk, which are unique in the Netherlands for battery storage:

• Cascade Insurance - Hull insurance covers damage to your electrical installations and infra. Even if the damage was caused by your own fault.
• Operation Insurance - Operating insurance covers damages in the form of lost revenue due to a breakdown during a covered hull loss.
• Liability Insurance - Liability insurance covers damage caused by your electrical system.
