Battery Park Zeewolde
Windpark Zeewolde has completed the permit for Battery Park Zeewolde. Director of Windpark Zeewolde Sjoerd Sieburgh Sjoerdsma: "When the wind blows hard and our wind turbines generate a lot of energy, we store the generated electricity here. This prevents grid congestion: overloading the high-voltage grid because too much electricity is offered. At times when it is precisely not windy, our mega-batteries still supply green electricity to the grid." Battery Park Zeewolde will be located next to the transformer station of Windpark Zeewolde. The owners are the same as those of Windpark Zeewolde: 200 farmers, residents and entrepreneurs from the outlying area of Zeewolde. This battery farm covers 2,000 m2 and will have a capacity of 65 megawatt hours (MWh). This will soon make it one of the larger battery projects in the Netherlands. The annual energy stored here is equivalent to the average electricity consumption of some 12,000 households. Rolls-Royce Power Systems will realize the project and supply the large-scale battery storage system. Construction will begin in July. The battery is expected to be ready for use in the fall of 2025. A second battery farm next to the transformer station involves battery project BES Vogelweg Zeewolde. This project belongs to a developer and comprises 2,400 m2 . This project has also received a final permit, but is not yet as far along in its development as Battery Park Zeewolde.
