Delft University of Technology
Delft University of Technology has eight different faculties that have a crucial scientific contribution to solving societal issues. Energy is naturally a major theme within various lines of research and education, ranging from wind and solar energy to the built environment, electrical engineering, management, transportation, energy storage and conversion.
Various interfaculty initiatives, consortia and institutes have been established by TU Delft to work with industry and government on energy topics such as
TU Delft Powerweb and the TU Delft Wind Energy Institute. Recently the new consortium e-Refinery was established, a university-wide initiative of TU Delft in which 4 faculties together with the chemistry and energy sector join forces in the field of electrification and decarbonization of chemistry and energy. E-refinery aims for an integral approach from material to system design up to a scale of 100 kW.
Energy Storage
Research and education in the field of energy storage focuses mainly on battery research for mobile applications (lithium and other types of batteries, their chemistry but also their control), batteries for static electricity storage, artificial fuels such as hydrogen, hydrocarbons and ammonia, heat storage methods and materials. The research mostly takes place in intensive collaboration with various stakeholders at home and abroad.
