Zero-emission inland waterway transport using swappable energy containers
For ๐ญ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ผ ๐๐บ๐ถ๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป ๐ฆ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ถ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐, a fully integrated public charging station and smart energy hub has been delivered to CCT Moerdijk. The installation makes it possible to fully charge so-called ZESpacks (interchangeable 20-foot battery containers for inland waterway vessels) with green electricity in just three hours.
๐๐ฒ๐ป๐บ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ป ๐๐ฎ๐ป ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ผ๐ฝ๐น๐ผ๐๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด:
- ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐น๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ฎ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐น๐๐ถ๐๐ถ๐ป๐ด ๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฒ๐ป ๐ป๐ฒ๐๐ฐ๐ผ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐๐๐ถ๐ฒ: The facility shares the electrical grid connection with the Combined Cargo Terminals (CCT) terminal. This prevents overloading of the power grid.
- ๐ ๐๐น๐๐ถ๐ณ๐๐ป๐ฐ๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป๐ฒ๐น๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ด๐ถ๐ฒ๐ต๐๐ฏ: When there are no ships (such as the Den Bosch Max BV) docked at the pier, the charged battery containers can be flexibly deployed for mobile shore power, temporary construction power, or local grid support.
- ๐๐ฒ๐ฎ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฑ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ฒ๐ธ๐ธ๐ฒ๐ฟ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฏ๐ถ๐ป๐ฑ๐ถ๐ป๐ด: The system uses the latest generation of MCS (Megawatt Charging System) connectors. This enables a fast, safe, and automated connection to the ship.
- ๐๐ป๐๐ฒ๐ด๐ฟ๐ฎ๐ฎ๐น ๐ฒ๐ป ๐บ๐ผ๐ฑ๐๐น๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฟ ๐ผ๐ป๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ฝ: The system is โplug-and-play,โ with Electroproject supplying the smart energy and control technology. SPIE designed the infrastructure, from the grid connection to a robust installation.
- ๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ฒ๐ฟ๐ถ๐ท ๐๐๐๐๐ฒ๐ฒ๐บ: Although the installation currently runs on lithium-ion batteries, the system is designed to be compatible with other energy sources in the future, such as hydrogen containers.
