Response from the regional energy transition team to the draft policy on large-scale battery storage in Flevoland
The Regional Energy Transition Team, a collaboration between Energy Storage NL, NVDE, Holland Solar, NedZero, and Energie-Nederland, has submitted a response to the draft policy on large-scale battery storage in the province of Flevoland. We appreciate that Flevoland is the first province in the Netherlands to provide guidance on battery storage through spatial policy, thereby explicitly incorporating energy interests into spatial considerations.
In our response, we make a number of recommendations to further clarify the policy and make it future-proof. Among other things, we advocate a broader approach to the system function of batteries, greater flexibility in location selection and distance criteria, and a clear elaboration of the energy test. This will enable energy storage to contribute more effectively in practice to reducing grid congestion and strengthening the energy system.
As we also indicate in our response, the Regional Energy Transition Team is keen to continue discussions with the province on this matter and is contributing ideas on how to integrate battery storage in Flevoland in a careful and effective manner.
