Departure Jeroen Neefs at Energy Storage NL

After five years as director of Energy Storage NL, Jeroen Neefs has decided to leave the organization at the end of July. Under his leadership, both the Dutch energy storage sector and the industry organization itself have experienced strong development.

Jeroen Neefs: “In five years, an awful lot has changed. Energy storage has evolved from a ‘promise for the future’ to the fastest growing energy market in the Netherlands. I am proud of the steps we have taken together, for example by developing new contracts and fees with government, grid operators and the ACM. This makes storage the first sustainable energy market in the Netherlands that has emerged without large-scale rollout subsidies but on the basis of market incentives, which deserves a big compliment to the sector.”.

The number of energy storage projects has exploded in recent years, doubling in operational capacity in the past year to 2.1 GWh. A strong foundation has been laid that even allows for continued growth to about 15 GWh by 2030. ESNL has played an important role in this by putting bottlenecks on the agenda, organizing cooperation and stimulating knowledge development.

In addition to the substantive development of the sector, the Energy Storage NL organization itself has also undergone a strong professionalization process in recent years. Membership grew from approximately 85 to 230 organizations, ranging from project developers and technology companies to grid operators, knowledge institutions and financial parties. This growth eventually led to the establishment of the Energy Storage NL Foundation and strengthened governance with a Board of Directors and an Advisory Board.

Maarten van den Heuvel - Chairman Energy Storage NL: “Jeroen has played a key role in the development of both the energy storage sector and Energy Storage NL over the past five years. Thanks to his efforts, today we have a strong, professional organization and a sector ready for further growth. We are very grateful for his dedication, vision and connecting force, and wish him every success in his next step.”
