Review of spring networking meeting
At the spring meeting of Energy Storage NL on April 21, government, grid operators and market participants came together to discuss the role of energy storage in the future energy system. The focus was on how storage can help solve grid congestion and support the energy transition.
Development of integrated energy storage policy agenda
The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate explained the development of an integrated policy agenda for energy storage. This agenda should bring more coherence and direction to a rapidly developing and politically sensitive dossier. In various in-depth sessions, we are working on themes such as the role of storage in the energy system, grid congestion, spatial integration and financial preconditions. The ambition is to arrive at a supported policy agenda before the summer.
Explanation of Flexibility Needs Assessment
Also discussed was the so-called Flexibility Needs Assessment (FNA), which is being conducted by TenneT together with the regional grid operators. This analysis maps out how much additional flexibility is needed towards 2030 and 2035 to keep the electricity system reliable and affordable. It not only looks at the total need, but also where and when flexibility is needed.
Research on batteries and grid congestion
As a closing speaker, DNV gave members an update on the research on batteries and grid congestion, sharing first draft results. This research is being commissioned by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate and is expected to be published around the summer.
The meeting shows that great strides are being made in policy around energy storage. The meeting eventually concluded with networking drinks.
