Advocate for energy storage
Energy Storage NL represents the broad energy storage sector towards governments and external stakeholders. In this way we connect companies, grid operators, knowledge institutions, governments and financiers in a meaningful way and remove existing barriers in national and European laws and regulations as much as possible.
National Energy Storage and Conversion Action Plan.
Goals and activities
Energy Storage NL is accelerating the storage market by strongly representing the interests of developers to policymakers.
Financing energy storage
- We are committed to tariff structures that no longer disadvantage energy storage over other flexibility options.
- We call for targeted subsidies that recognize and value the societal benefits of storage - such as grid relief, security of supply and system flexibility.
- We also encourage the development of new contract forms and reimbursement mechanisms so that storage projects can count on stable and future-proof revenue streams.
Locations for energy storage
- We advocate understanding where, how much and what type of storage is needed to best support the energy system.
- We are committed to clear and predictable permitting procedures and better inclusion requirements so that projects can move more quickly from the drawing board to realization.
- In addition, we advocate the application of social prioritization in the grid connection queue, in order to accelerate projects with the greatest system value, thereby shortening the queue.
Energy storage laws and regulations
- We are committed to the clarification and uniform application of safety standards, including PGS37, so that physical safety is ensured in a consistent manner.
- We are working on appropriate framework conditions for cybersecurity, with a view to implementing NIS-2 and the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
- We call for realistic and feasible agreements around circularity so that the sector can meet European recycling requirements without unnecessarily hindering the development of storage.
This do we by
Agenda setting
We put flexibility at the top of the political and administrative agenda, including through the publication of the National Energy Storage Action Plan . In it we make concrete proposals to stimulate energy storage in the coming years. Input for this comes from our participants, including through the working groups. We also use this input for media coverage.
Advocacy
We maintain contact with regional, national and European governments and external stakeholders such as other industry associations. This includes contributing to public consultations for new legislation, formulating clear guidelines and standards, and creating support for energy storage.
Partnerships
Energy Storage NL maintains contact with external stakeholders such as Netbeheer Nederland, Holland Solar and other industries. In this way we carry a common voice for the deployment of energy storage in the energy system of the future. In addition, we are a member of the Energy Storage Europe
Association (formerly EASE), in which we contribute to advocacy in Brussels
